This photograph was taken during an exploratory voyage up the Black River directed by the then Governor-general of French Indochina Albert Sarraut. Photographed by an unknown member of the voyage (possibly Sarraut himself), the location of this image is believed to be near a small rural town called Sui Yut in what is now Vietnam.
