Venus of the Vatican

from 75€

Italy, circa 1890
by Studio James Anderson

The British photographer James Anderson was one of the pioneers of artistic photographs of paintings and sculptures. It is unknown if this image, of the Venus located in the Vatican museum, was taken by Anderson (who died in 1877) and printed later or if it was taken by one of his sons who continued to operate his studio in Italy, but it is clear the photographer of this work succeeded in capturing the beauty and aesthetic of this Hellenistic statue.
