Tall Ships Docked in Marseille
from 75€
France, circa 1885
by Jean Giletta
During a time when most professional photographers in France were working out of a studio, the purveyor of this image, Jean Giletta, was traveling throughout southern France taking pictures of the landscapes and cityscapes of the region. Tis image taken in the port of Marseille, with tall ships lining the left side of the street and shops and apartment buildings lining the right, is a wonderful example of Giletta’s work and shows how he was able to truly capture the sense of 19th century life in this coastal city.
