Te city of Le Havre, situated on the English Channel in Northern France, has been one of the most important French port cities since it founding in the early 16th century. Te city was originally named Franciscopolis, in homage to King Francis I who initiated its construction, but was changed to Le Havre (which literally translates to “protected harbor”) in the late 18th century. Tis image, taken by the French photographer Claude-Marie Ferrier, shows a tall ship leaving the protection of the port for an unknown destination.
