The Sphinx of Giza
from 75€
Egypt, 1857
by J. Robertson and F. Beato
Measuring 20 meters high and 73 meters long and carved out of the existing limestone bedrock, the Sphinx of Giza is the largest single stone statue in the world. Though mystery surrounds who created the Sphinx and when, common theory is that the pharaoh Khafre constructed it around 2500 BC. In this image, the relentless desert sand has buried the Sphinx to it’s shoulders, but there is still no mistaking the power and majesty that gives providence to the name: Guardian of the Giza Plateau.
