Nothing definitive is known about this photograph, including the photographer, except that this boat is on the waters of the Huangpu River flowing through the city of Shanghai. Possibly used as a large reception hall capable of relocating to different parts of the city, it has also been postulated that this boat may have served as a pleasure craft of a different kind.
