Lewis Hine

The American photographer Lewis Hine was hired by the United States National Child Labor Committee as an investigative reporter to help document working conditions of children in the early nineteen hundreds. This image is one of the best examples of his work during this time. The irony of these three smiling young boys, who worked every night until midnight, posing in front of Les Miserables (The Wretched) bowling alley was clearly not lost on Hine.
