The Scotsman Charles Scowen was considered the most talented and gifted of all of the Brithish photographers working in Ceylon (currently Sri Lanka) during the 19th century. Renown for his ability to capture the natural beauty of this island nation, his photographs of woman, such as this photograph of a young woman gathering tea leaves, are a fine testament to this claim.
