The Mojave Indians lived alongside the banks of the Colorado River and it is from this location that the Tribe’s name is derived. The name Mojave being
composed of two Indian words, “aha” which means water, and macav”, meaning alongside. In this moving portrait, a young Mojave woman can be seen with face paint typically used for festivals and funerals.
