Morocco, 1889
by George Lévy

This image of a minaret (the lofty tower associated with a mosque from which a crier intones aloud the call summoning Muslims to prayer) provides a wonderful graphic view of the coastal city of Tangier (located at the western entrance to the Straight of Gibraltar in Morocco.) Taken by the French photographer George Lévy, the vertical lines of the palm tree and the two minarets (the second minaret sits on the hill in the distance) contrasts perfectly with the horizontal lines of the city buildings.
