The famous 18th century Japanese poet Kobayashi Issa was born in the village (Kashiwabara) from where this photograph of Mt Fuji was taken. Known as a master of haiku, Issa wrote numerous odes to the mountain including one he may have composed from the exact spot Kusakabe Kimbei used to take this spectacular photograph.
