Te Français, captained by Jean-Baptiste Charcot, spent 13 months in 1904 and early 1905 on a scientifc expedition charting and exploring the Antarctic Peninsula. Tis photograph, taken by Paul Pléneau, who was responsible for the photographic record of the expedition, shows the 45-meter Français anchored in a shallow bay of the North Coast of Booth Island where the captain and crew waited out the winter of 1904.
