Found in Yosemite National Park in the state of California, the rock formation « El Capitan » (spanish for the captain) is more than 900 meters tall and is the largest monolith of granite in the world. This image, taken by the American Carleton Watkins (renown as the photographer of some of the first and most important images of the Yosemite region) provides a majestic view of this natural wonder as seen from the banks of the Merced River.
