Brooklyn Bridge From Above

from 75€

United States, circa 1890

Unidentified

Completed in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1903. This image, taken from the New York tower and looking toward Brooklyn, shows the bridge roughly twenty years before the widespread adoption of automobiles. Consequently, the two outside lanes were used for horse drawn carriages. The two inner lanes were devoted to cable car traffic and the center lane was dedicated to pedestrians.
