from 75€
Tahiti, circa 1910
by Lucien Gauthier
The French photographer Lucien Gauthier settled in Papeete, the largest city on the island of Tahiti, in 1904 and was famous for his photographs of this island and the numerous others comprising the French overseas collectivity of French Polynesia. In this photograph, Gauthier found an elegant schooner at anchor (presumably after crossing the Pacific) with the town of Papeete hidden in the luxurious vegetation in the distance.
